Hi! I'm Mrs. Shrader. I teach second grade at Sherwood Elementary in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been a teacher for 31 years. I am a mother and a wife. I love nature, music, dance and art. Welcome to our environmentally conscientious club! Lorax Club members are third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders who want to make a difference in their world by educating others about recycling and sustainability. We also hope to be role models by setting an example and reducing our own carbon footprint, especially here at our school, Sherwood. Several years ago, I began working to begin a recycling campaign for TerraCycle.net. My fourth grade and a second grade class worked together to create commercials that we presented to each grade level during their lunch period, promoting the Drink Pouch Brigade. We encouraged all students to rinse out and collect any foil drink pouches they use (i.e. Capri Sun, Kool Aid Jammers). We send these to Terra Cycle and they donate $.01 for each one to a charitable organization of our choice. They also use the drink pouches to make really cool stuff like totes, lunch boxes, backpacks, pencil bags and folders!
